The Story

(How the hell did this happen? I mean honestly - where did I go wrong? I arrive, perform, get a free room. So far, so good. Get a nice young woman inviting me back to her room. That's nice. I find out that she talks too much, and try to change the subject, at which point this bloke bursts in, freezes me, sticks a bracelet on my wrist, tells me I'm a murderer and then accuses yet -another- intruder of intruding. No, that can't be right. I'm sure there was supposed to be something about a cat there somewhere. Hmm. Why am I talking to myself?)

"I came because the young lady downstairs claimed that she and a companion had been assaulted, and because I heard you shouting,"

That was the woman. (Nice legs. Shut up. No, -you- shut up. Pay attention, idiot. Oh yeah. Sorry.)

"It seems that I was mislead, for which I apologize."

Leydon opened his mouth to reply to this, but the madman got there first.

"I sensed something was wrong and on entering this room found this man, whom I do not yet know the name of, about to strangle the fair maiden you mentioned."

"I got her out of the room quickly in order to deal with this attempted murderer. He of course denies the claims, but I can judge with my own eyes. As such, he is now bound to me by that bracelet he curses."

Leydon took a second to respond here, shocked not only by the enormous falsity of the man's words, but also by the fact that he appeared to think that this was a suitable explanation.

"Now hold on a second here," he said, speaking up firmly. "This is absolutely ridiculous, as I'm sure the lady has noticed. What actually happenned was that my lady-friend and I were in here and suddenly this bloke bursts in, casts something on me and, while I was frozen, slipped a bracelet onto my hand. He managed to make all of the judgments he outlined based on the two second interval that occurred between his smashing the door down and casting the spell on me. I'm neither a murderer nor a willing victim here. Get this bracelet off me, get that smug look off your face, and bugger off."

Leydon's words were fast and gradually gaining in anger. He didn't stop there.

"And don't you go telling her," he gestured to Keleos. "to go away. At least she hasn't cursed me yet. I'd rather she stuck around. You," his finger stabbed the air in Engras direction, "are a nutcase."

Selene stared at Trevor, her face paling rather rapidly. There was a slight gash on her right upper arm, where a branch had ripped through her shirt, and some minor scrapes, but otherwise, she was fine. Starstruck had disappeared again, into the thick brush, but for some reason, she wasn't concerned. For some reason, she trusted that the big gelding would come back to her in his own time.

"..W..what did you say?" She gasped out. "What do you mean? How do you know about my father? Who told you?!" Any gratitude she would have felt at Trevor's rescue was overshadowed by her continual anger and now stunned fear at this statement. It only took her a second to regain her composure, straightening, her eyes flashing slightly.

"What I am attempting to say ... SIR Ainsley, is that I do not know what you're talking about. Even if I did, why should I trust you?" And with that, she turned on her heel and started back the way they'd come, following the torn soil that marked the horses' passings.

"Tiel?" She called, thinking of looking for the woman but ignoring it. It was HER fault that Trevor's run off in the first place and Selene was still quite disgusted with the behaviour she'd seen. However, she honestly was worried about her friend. "Tiel?!"

Spellbinder - 2001-01-12

Trevor had just about all he was going to take of Selene's attitude. Summoning all his self control he strode after the young lady, his wounded leg protesting but he ignored it.

He caught up to her and grabbed her unwounded arm gently, but firmly, and turned her around to face him. His voice quiet, yet forceful he spoke. "I saved your life not once, not twice, but THREE times! THAT means you can trust me, Lady Selene." He noted her reaction and continued, "Thats right, isn't it? You are of royal descent, of that I am certain. Well, if three times isn't enough, then there is nothing more I can do to convince you. I am an honorable man, a knight who is sworn to defend those in need. I admit I had a lapse of judgment concerning Azari and I left you. But that will not happen again, I give you my word on that. You can trust me. All I ask for is another chance. Please."

Trevors eyes pleaded with Selene and he let his grip on her arm relax. His hand slid down and found her hand, which he squeezed gently. "Please let me help you, M'lady." He spoke gently and earnestly. He braced himself for Selene's reaction. His mind screamed at him to find Azari, but he knew he must be reconciled to Selene first. If he knew anything, he knew Azari could take care of herself.

Amber - 2001-01-13

Selene stared at him for a moment, a bit helplessly. She wanted to tell him;.. but if she did, wouldn't he just send her back where she'd come from? He was a knight after all... He'd probably be sworn by honor to bring her back.. back to her home. No.. she'd not go back. Not until she could make her father see that this.. preposterous idea of her getting married was just that, preposterous!

She heaved a sigh. "If I do tell you, you must swear that will not take me home and not betray me to my family or any who would tell them of my presence here.. Meaning, I would swear you to total, utter secrecy, even from that woman and Tiel. If you do not swear it on your honor, I won't tell you. It is as simple as that." Her free hand ran through her chestnut curls, trying to restore some semblance of order.. It seemed no matter what she did, her hair was always just a mess of curls. Her teal eyes were dark, stormy, a little disturbed. Her arm throbbed, and she was slightly dizzy from the smoke, the excitement, and now this...

Muranog Kachar the Red forced himself to smile gently back at the young winged girl as she tentatively looked up at him. :Elements, help me keep her calm. We do not need this inn to suddenly combust.:

"I am Muranog Kachar, called the Red, a pyromancer of the Shenmiri people," he identified himself to the young Avarel, "- the same people as Keleos. Keleos is indeed here in the inn she has merely gone upstairs for a moment. Will you wait for her here with me? She will have to return soon, so that we may maneuver your companion " he indicated the still unconscious form of Daemil "up the stairs."

All the while he spoke, his Firesense was carefully tuned to detect the first sign of danger from the girl's wild Talent, even as his warrior training chafed at him to investigate what was going on above.

The smoke began to die down a little but it was too soon for Azari to see what had happened to Trevor, Selene and Teil. Azari called for Jetta very happy to find that her horse did not run off into the woods. Jetta was grunting and trotting back and forth jerking up and down on her feet.

"Shhhhh girl, I am right here, it's ok Shhh Commme herrrrre Jetta, itttt's allllright girl" Azari tapped her hand on her lap to gain Jetta's trust using soft vocal tones for soothing her horse to come close. " It's ok Jetta, come here girl. Jetta's ears flickered backwards, Jetta moved closer . Azari quickly covered her head ducking down she was not sure if her horse was going to stop or jump right over her. Azari had never seen her horse this upset before she wasn't sure if she could get Jetta under control. Jetta jumped right over her circling back. Azari noticed that Jetta's reigns began to drag on the ground. They could get into her path of trotting and trip her. The saddle bag was already hanging loose from her jerking up and down. Jetta continued to trot in circles, settling more as Azari continued to soothe her to a calm. Jetta eventually stopped giving out deep breaths. Azari dragged herself to get close enough to reach for her reigns. "There there girl, it's alright, you're fine! Shhhhhhhhh, easy girl. EASY. Azari had gained control.

Azari held herself up using the reigns and Jetta to hold onto. Now Azari could take a more detailed look at her left leg. After careful examination, she thought, " great! just what I need, a burnt spot on my calf! That's going to leave a mark. Sarcastically mumbling to herself.

She then had a flash back of memory of Trevor's comments "you must work hard, harder than you ever worked before if you are to have any chance at all." I know someone in town who has training facilities."

Azari was bound and determined to prove to Trevor as she remembered that he said "I need to know if you can do more than just wave that sword about."

"What's with that smirk any how?" Azari's eyebrows moved up and a frown moved across her face. " Way to go Azari, ya... you'll really show him now. Not!".

From the bottom of the pit of her stomach she felt strange feelings. The wink and gesture of his word burned into her heart as she recalled him saying " This isn't over between us, I don't give up that easily."She knew Trevor was unaware that Azari heard him say those words. His leg touching on hers, it was very strange indeed stirring up emotions she was in denial of. " That man is indeed rude and certainly not a gentlemen when it comes to the ladies. After she listened to herself think she said out loud " Well who does he think he is anyway!" Her lips and eyes tightened.

She began to think about Selene and Tiel. The way Selene stood there barking orders one minute and being insensitive the next. In a mocking tone Azari mimicked back her words " I have reasonable doubt to whether you really are a knight or just a simple, arrogant liar who only pretends to be to weasel his way into the company of those who'd not even spare a glance at any at any other time! Either way, I have no wish to be lowered down to your laughable level by being seen in your company. I will go my own way and find someone else worthy of the title of knighthood!"

Shaking her head, " I'll fix her! Ms. High and Mighty well just who does she think she is that she can just tell us what we are and what to do. WELL obviously WE are the lowest on her laughable level. Huh." Azari swept through her hair as she rolled her eyes" I'll just have to put her back in her place. Ms. I can't cook, oooh look at me I am helpless, SAVE ME TREVOR SAVE ME! She's the one taking advantage and weaseling herself into his arms. WHAT A RHETORICAL SPOILED LITTLE BRAT." Azari was glad that no one was around. If she could she would really give it to Selene.

Pains shot down into her calf. " Well, I can't now but somebody oughta put that PERSON who ever she thinks she is, into the mote that she must have came from." Laughing out loud entertaining herself " yah and she would NEVER make it out here alone. Good Gravy.. I -I, Azari stopped talking, she thought she heard something coming
